Our routine used to be straightforward. Put the boys to bed, come downstairs, clear up the lounge of their toys and playmat and have dinner. Since their birthday though, things have somewhat changed!
No longer does the odd nice soft rattle or a book seem to suffice as a form of entertainment. Now we have Mega Blox, rocking horses, toy cars, shape sorters etc. All of which seem to make a great deal more mess!
The evening lounge clear-up now takes about three times as long as it used to - partly due to the quantity but also because of the extra care needed when picking something up that could go 'boing' or 'beep beep' or sing a nursery rhyme at the slightest mis-grip. Also, where as before we used to 'de-toy' the lounge completely, now the odd brick or plastic shape inevitably remains.
Is this the start of the 'toy takeover' that seems to happen to every parent's house?

That's it! And it'll be like that till they are about 4 and have more of their toys in their rooms!
Best tip? A very large and obnxious easily lifted box or hamper that you fill and carry into the dining room or wherever else is out of the way.
Welcome to plastic hell!
