Water Babies - Week 6

If we thought last week's session was energetic, this weeks was another level all together. The boys almost spent more time under water than they did above it!

Things are moving at quite a pace now - we did at least 6 underwater swims including two where we had to let go of the boys, so they felt completely free under water. Admittedly this was only for a couple of seconds, but the first time we did it, it scared the life out of us!

It was great to see them kicking themselves along under water!

Only 3 weeks left now.

Theo Fang and The Badly Bruised Kid

Mr Theo has developed a penchant for biting his brother - no doubt fueled by his teething issues.

Poor Mr Charlie is covered in bruises. At first we wondered what was going on. Was he knocking himself whilst trying to crawl? falling over when sitting up? No, this morning we caught Theo taking a taste to Charlie's arm - leaving a couple of fang marks (couldn't be any more than 2 - he has no more teeth!) . A little scream from Charlie before we disengaged Theo's jaw from his arm.

No doubt there will be more antics such as this as they grow - except the 'weapons' will probably get fiercer and the injuries greater....

Sniffle Sniffle

Poor Theo. He's been suffering again this week. He's got a cold.

His poor little nose is running all the time but he's obviously too young to know how to blow it so we're constantly wiping it for him.

To try and help him out, we bought a 'nasal aspirator' the other day. Basically, it's something you stick up his nostril with a tube attached - the other end to which you stick in your mouth and suck as hard as you can. Yes, it sounds disgusting and it is - completely.

As you can imagine he is waking up quite a bit in the night too. That, on top of the teething is leading to some major sleep deprivation for everyone again. Ho hum....

Water Babies - Week 5

...or as we decided to call it, Water Babies Boot Camp!

This week's swimming was carried out at twice the speed of previous weeks - there was no let up in the activities for the full half hour!

The underwater 'swimming' was longer this week and involved a 'swim' around us for about 3 - 4 second rather than just a second or two underwater pulling them towards us. I almost drowned Theo as he came up coughing and spluttering following his 'dunk'. Charlie meanwhile is taking this swimming lark in his stride. It may have something to do with Theo having a bit of a cold at the moment (rather than it being my fault!).

The usual nursery rhymes and 'swish swishing' in the water also occurred and before we knew it, the session was over and we were fighting with the other people in the class to get to the changing mats first!

Scream if you wanna go faster!

We took the boys on a family trip out to Chessington World of Adventures earlier this week.

We had fun looking round the zoo, the new Sealife Centre, even managing to go on several rides. We were really surprised at how much there was to do with young babies!

As we were going to be spending all day there, we had a military operation planned around feed times!

Here's a pic of the boys enjoying their new hats....

My How They've Grown....

A couple of recent 'post-swim' pictures for you...

Water Babies - Week 4

It was our turn to dunk the boys this week.

One was the same dunking as last week (ie. hold them at arms length, make sure you've got their attention, say 'Ready, Go!' and plop them under water for a couple of seconds). The second one was the same but from a sitting position on the edge of the pool.

Great fun! The boys loved it!

This was followed by a few more nursery rhymes (we've got the words to these sussed now!) a nd a quick nap on the way home - for them obviously, not us...

Weeeee!

Clair took the boys for their first trip to the local playground today. Looks like they had a great time on the swings. I think they're still a bit young for the slide though....

Theo Weeeee!

Charlie Weeeee!

Da Da Da Da

That's Charlie's favourite saying at the moment.

Not quite "Daddy", but it will do as a starter.

Water Babies Week 3 - Dunkin' Donuts

Bit late with this post I'm afraid but we had our third week of swimming last Sunday (8th June). This was the big dunkin' session when the boys got their first proper taste of swimming pool water!

The lady running the class did their first submersion (too many concerned looking Mums and Dads to do it themselves!) but we needn't have worried. They were only underwater for a couple of seconds - and a happy looking parent upon their return to the surface soon put their minds at rest.

Some babies cried but Theo and Charlie did us proud - good lads....

They're on the move!

Yes that's right, Theo and Charlie are crawling!

Theo is doing a slightly better job of it than Charlie. He tends to pull himself along, using one of his knees to push himself forward whilst dragging the other leg behind, Quasimodo stylee.

Charlie on the other hand, is still doing 360's and doing roly polys to move himself around.

As such, things around the house are starting to be raised off floor level...

Down They Go!

As the guys get bigger, they're moving around their cots more and more. They're even starting to grab the top rail of the cots and the mobiles which hang overhead! So, luckily our cots have the ideal solution - get them lowered!

A quick turn of the screwdriver and we've added another foot of head space for the boys.

Once they're able to stand up in their cots, we'll move the cots to the lowest position.

Water Babies Week 2

Following a 2 week break for half term, we've now finished the second week of the boys' swimming classes.

We covered a lot of the same stuff this week as we did the first. This time though, we also had to sit the boys on the edge of the pool, splash them into the water, turn them around and show them how to hold onto the edge.

Most of the stuff we're doing at the moment seems to be about showing them what to do if they fall in the water and about word association with the parent.

There was also the same sorry attempt at nursery rhymes from us.

Next week is the big week! It's dunkin' time!

Love It or Hate It

Yes, we're talking about Marmite. That gooey, sticky, black spread that divides the nation - Theo and Charlie absolutely love it!

We think it may have something to do with the fact that Clair had a minor obsession with the stuff during pregnancy and would eat it at every opportunity.

Nice one boys! That's a whole family of lovers now....
